Can Coconut oil help reverse Alzheimer's
64Mercola.com is a website run by Dr. Mercola that sends out a free newsletter with great info. His natural health newsletter is one of the places I look to for natural health info. If you do not get his free newsletter I recommend you subscribe. He recently posted some video's of a Dr. Newport who talks about the effects of Coconut oil for Alzheimer's patients. Dr. Newport's husband has Alzheimer's and lost most of his cognitive thought. She stumbled on Coconut oil while trying to get her husband as a patient for one of the Big Pharmaceutical company's drug trials. He has had a miraculous turn around.
This subject mater is very sensitive to my family and I because my father has Parkinson's and maybe Alzheimer's. It has just started to progress on his mind at what seams to be a very fast rate. We have just implemented the Coconut oil into his diet to see if it helps. This is a soul sucking disease and if this can naturally slow the progress of reverse it as it has for Mr. Newport, that would be amazing.
So if you know anyone with Alzheimer's please watch all of these video's and pass them on.

Me as well, so with this added to the other posative stuff I have read I figured it is time to add it to our diet.

Don, the videos are kind of dry but very informative. I highly recommend a fish or krill oil but it has to be a high quality one because of the other things like mercury that can accumulate. The benefits of fish oil are long including; mood stabilization, joint lubrication, heart health, skin and hair benefits to name a few. Thanks for checking in!
Great work, ghomefitness; Alz runs in my family. My Mom is part of some Texas Alz association. She'll be interested in this one for sure. I don't really expect to be around that long, but who knows, and some people have been diagnosed at pretty young ages.

Very interesting hub, my mom had Alzheimer's and died in June. I am always looking for natural cure and health benefits and I have taken fish oil for years and have been looking locally for the Krill oil. Now that so many people are into these the prices seem to be soaring so I always grab up what I can on a buy one, get one free, etc. If I miss a fish oil as little as two days, my body knows it, so I know it works. I will watch the videos later too, guess we all are a little rushed right now, but will still vote you up for being a help and sharing with us. God bless you and your father and I hope you will find something, it was a really bad time for me and especially loving Mom more than anyone in the world since I can remember.

Thanks Polly I agree the Krill does get expensive. I bought the coconut at the grocery store and it was pricey as well. I see it on-line much cheaper but I always worry about food stuff online.

Thank you so much for sharing this! My Mother had Alzheimer's as did my grandfather and aunt on my mother's side of the family, so genetically I am not favored. I understand what you are experiencing with your Dad, its hurtful to see a loved one lose their ability to think and function.

Thanks VioletSun, it actually has a good taste in some of the things we have cooked with it. The stir fry and rice is great. Build up slow with it because it has a cleansing effect when you start (like prunes).
I have ordered online things, Nature's Way or Nature's Own..names I have used and trust and you can get some pretty good deals. I don't care much for GNC, they charge outrageous prices and every time I have been in one until last time they talk me into buying something "better" and of course it never is. lol
I will follow you and keep up with your findings since naturally with parents having Alzheimer's we may be good candidates to have it too. My mom went through some horrors because she couldn't tell on caregivers and I hit many brick walls trying to help her, but I failed.

Amazing, I came back and read this again as my Mom has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's and maybe Alzheimer's just as your Dad. I've book marked this and will be giving it a go with my mom. Great videos, I will def be watching them.

Katie, I am very sorry about your mother's diagnosis. I hope this helps, it seems to be helping my dad a bit. It works well in most warm foods but I hate it in mashed potato's.
Try and keep your mom's flexability at all cost with the parkinson's. The balance is hard to get back. My dad was not very flexable in the first place and he fell a couple of times. I have him usng a vibration plate and it helps slow the muscle loss and help him with balance.
